seaboard. check out new york, 34 degrees, boston 34 and 20s out to the west. pittsburgh, 28 degrees this morning. binghamton, 27. plenty of cold air, big chunk of cold air across the mid- atlantic and new england. that helped with the winter weather we are seeing across the northeast. there it is, wrapping up east of new york out towards the cape and the islands out there. you can see on the back side of it, we are getting the cloud cover and a few leftover sprinkles locally. there might be a sprinkle or flurry here early. the trend will be to clear things out. we'll remain cool today. the highs only in the low 50s. there will be a bit of a breeze that will make things feel nice and chilly out there. we are headed in the right direction with sunshine. 53 your daytime high in washington. 50 at quantico. mid- to upper 40s off to the north and west. 48 at dulles. warmer than yesterday but not where we want to be. >> i know. not where a lot of people would like it to be. >> thank you. >>> time now to say good morning once again to julie wright. >> better news for those traveling northbo

is live in massachusetts, south of boston with a look at the conditions there. maria, good morning. >> well, good morning. you can see for yourself the conditions are pretty awful. the winds are anywhere from 40 to 50 miles per hour, at times gusting higher than that. you can see what it's doing to the water. then we have the overwatch along with that push of water. so we've seen a number of coastal flooding report places like nantucket having six inches of water over some spots. just over the last few hours, a buoy off of buzzard's bay, the winds gusted to 67 miles per hour. wind advisories posted all along the new england coast. they'll drop away this afternoon. that is some good news as the winds will start to ease, as the storm pulls away later tonight. still you see that potential for 30 to 40-mile-per-hour wind gusts. no doubt this will lead to some big head aches at boston logan. commuters either greeted with some flooding on the roadways or perhaps in places like worcester, mass, just to our north and west, looking at several inches of snowfall and that could continue the n

. and temperatures right now in washington, 42 degrees. cold air. new york this morning 35 degrees and 35 in boston as well. very chilly temperatures out there. looking at the satellite radar, i can show you the storm system around here. we're done with it. we did have a few showers and snowflakes during the nighttime hours. those are out of here. pushing off to the north and east. very impressive sight. i think i mentioned 4 inches at jfk. newark 6 inches. so our trend will be more sunshine. cool temperatures and a breeze this afternoon with highs in the low 50s. there's your warming trend for the end of the weekend. by sunday and monday, mid 60s around here. that's closer to where we should be. average daytime high is in the low 60s. haven't done that all month. and looks like we'll get that warmup we've been looking for by the end of the weekend here. >>> that's a look at weather more coming up in a minute. let's do some traffic. >> all right. leaving you with big delays right now for those continuing along 95 and 295 southbound. coming southbound on the baltimore washington parkway. earlier cra

issues. 34 pittsburgh, 30 bingham ton, 32 new york city, 33 boston, a terrible chill for these people who don't have power. there are 50,000 new outages tonight across new jersey and new york. you can see winds gusting to 25 miles an hour in most areas tonight. some of the higher totals you get here on the islands and they're near 40 to maybe 50 miles an hour as we look toward nantucket and cape cod where some of the strongest winds are. the nor'easter will pull out of the area tomorrow leafing new england last. overnight we'll have -- leaving new england last. overnight we'll have mostly clouds. we'll see the nor'easter exit foam and a pattern change beginning -- tomorrow and a pattern change beginning, not so much tomorrow, breezy, sunny and cool but a warm-up friday, saturday, sunday, temperatures in the mid- to upper 60s. let's check out futurecast. 10:00 tonight it has a nice handle on where the rain and snow is. as we watch this thing move out, we've got clouds at 7:00 in the morning, jersey and new york starting to clear out still affecting new england. it will eventually pull out.

.i.e. they have v heavy rain for the cape, but boston a bit of a dry area. but the damage already done. look at these snowfall totals. central new jersey over a foot of snow. everywhere here in the light pink shading is 3 to 6 inches of snow. and new york city coming in just over 4 inches which was the earliest 4 inch snowfall ever on record for the city. beating that old record by over a month -- or i should say about a month. heavy snow continued across connecticut and so we're continuing to watch that area. but the snow that's already on the ground was blowing around, as well. still 20 to 30-mile-an-hour wind gusts. these are the peak winds we saw near 70 miles an hour near nantucket. everyone else closer to 40s in the mile per hour range. but that's enough. for the advisories that are still out there, connecticut into rhode island, we're still watching winter weather advisories and winter storm warns. and that continues up the coast into new hampshire and maine where the snowfall totals quite honestly won't be as big. switching gears a little bit, i know there's a lot of natural gas and

will be doing it longer than that because everybody is calling in. you worked in boston areas for years. how do your friends describe that devastation? >> the storm is coming to new england. they are getting a little snow before you i have some friends in new york and new jersey. some that had homes on the coastline that -- yeah, it's devastating. when you go out there and some don't have homes and you know the neighbors and all that kind of thing. >> a lot of homes are gone, power outages everywhere, now the nor'easter and all that snow comes in so you have to feel for that. if you can donate it would be a great time to do it. our weather here, we have changes in the works. cool breeze blowing outside, hi- def doppler still looking for rain. it remains dry right now but that will likely change as we head into the middle of the day in the afternoon. we do have a cold front that swept through but now the low is making its way toward california. that will bring with it a chance of showers especially in the latter part of the day so grab your jackets and grab that umbrella if you are heading out

factor right now especially close to new england. i'm south of boston. take a look. you have the boats in the water and that water is churned up. the winds consistent, 30, 40, close to 50 miles per hour sustained. over the last several hours. seen gusts still clocking in at 60 miles per hour. we had a report out towards the cape of 60 miles per hour and nantucket with a peak wind gust of 68 miles per hour and seeing reports with the consistent winds of some coastal flooding including high water over the roads in nantucket. a few trees down and led to scattered power outages. you can see behind me, higher water this morning and we are now not at high tide and not seeing the stray come up and over. that was a concern, as well. when's interesting about this storm is winding down and pulling away, wind is still going to be such a huge factor. easing winds means 20 to 30 miles per hour as we get in to the evening opposed to 40 or 50 miles per hour. but that's going to be the case even going through the end of the day today. snow not so much an issue along the coast. it's been the wind and t

, boston almost 50-mile-an-hour wind gusts, 38-mile-an-hour wind gusts in newark. and the snowfall amounts, four inches in stony brook, flushing, seven inches. new york stained newark both setting records, north haven, connecticut, 12 inches of snow. and berkeley heights, new jersey, getting seven and a half inches of snow now. look at the live radar, you can see is making its way up the coast, still snow being dealt with throughout parts of new england. we're looking at wet weather up the coast of new england as well and we have got a lot of wind to deal with, talking about the wind. we are talking about wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour out on the cape. we expect to see wind advisories along the coastline of new england and nantucket, looking at high wind warnings and with wind gusts from washington, d.c. up to boston, anywhere from 15 to 30 miles per hour, probably be some airport delays as well. the good news is, it's just about over. that's the latest. we have got your local forecast coming up in just a little bit. now, let's go back inside to matt. >> all right, al, thank you very m

will see airport delays stretching all the way from boston down into washington, d.c. today. so we are not quite done with this, but it's just about over. that's the good news. we have to wait and see what else is coming. guys, back to you. >> all right, al. thank you very much. of course, not everyone is as fortunate as that woman we saw who got her power back in the middle of that interview. tens of thousands of homeowners are still in the dark ten days after sandy. nbc's erica hill is in ocean side, new york. on long island, good morning. >> reporter: hey, matt, good morning to you. driving around here, you have to be so careful of the power lines, which as you can see are weighted down now even lower under all of this snow. as of midnight, an additional 20,000 here on long island are without power. and the local power company says they will get to them. but they're in line behind all of the people they still need to bring power back to who lost it after sandy. that small solitude for people like the davises behind me who have been without power for more than a week. streets are
